Growth is Painful…

We are not perfect nor do we need to pretend that we are. But I do believe it is necessary for us to be the best that we can possibly be if we want to enjoy life while here on earth.

I started my journey of watching my diet and counting calories on January 16th. I will be the first to say, IT’S BEEN HARD… especially on days or weeks when I’ve been traveling. But, I’ve been fairly consistent and am down 12 pounds. I still have 20 more pounds to go and hoping to reach my goal to finally fit into my wedding dress of 35 years ago.

I have failed many times and given in to the Coca-Cola and chocolate but that’s ok. I have missed some days and weeks of exercising, and that’s ok, too. I’m just taking it one day at a time.

Just like the ocean’s tide, I have my highs and lows.

As long as I have the willpower, I will make it. And my prayer is that this time will be different. This journey is teaching me how much I have over eaten in the past and how out of shape I have become, if I can ever say that I was really ever in shape! LOL 😀 I don’t know how long it will take me to reach my goal, but I do know that once I do, my mindset has changed.

Just having turned 55 and living with an autoimmune disease has made me realize that life is way too short to not take care of myself and enjoy life as much as possible physically, mentally and spiritually.

It’s highly unlikely that I will make it as a pro body builder… 🤪 but I will continue my journey. I will continue to count calories. And I will continue to exercise.

Not much muscle tone yet but I am working on eliminating the flab! 😀

Are you in the process of working on something to better yourself? If so, please share. I would love to hear about your journey and what works/doesn’t work for you in gaining results.

Visual Storytelling

The world around us has many stories to be heard and told.

Photography has a way of capturing and retelling that story with a click of a button.

From the time we are children, we continue to ask ourselves..

Who am I?

And we are naturally curious, always looking for something…

As we get older, we find ourselves looking at all the options…

Realizing that anything worth striving for may have many obstacles…

And more importantly, the way we live and tell our story

will eventually help us grow and evolve to become more content.

The Flip Side of Valentine’s

Today is Valentine’s Day. Yes, the time of year when it is said to be the most romantic day of the year. That theory, I’m not sold on just yet. There other days throughout the year where I have experienced romance, and oddly enough…it usually is not on Valentine’s Day.

Here are some fun facts you may or may not know.

  • The first commercially printed Valentine’s Day card was produced in 1913 by Hallmark. Today, more than a billion Valentine’s cards are sold each year.
  • February 14th is also Single Awareness Day.
  • According to Hallmark, more than 50 percent of this holiday card is purchased within six days before the 14th.
  • There will be more than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate sold for Valentine’s Day.
  • Among those buying gifts, 3 percent are those who buy for their pets.
  • On this day, in the U.S., 189 million stems of roses are sold.

That’s a lot of cards. A lot of chocolate…and a lot of roses.

I think it’s awesome that there is a day set aside each year to show love and affection for others. The world we live in could sure use many more days like this, if only it didn’t cost a fortune. 🙂

But, I want to focus on those out there who are facing this day of love without the one they love. This is one of those holidays that can make a person realize who they may be missing and just how much. Then again, for others…it may not matter at all. But if you find yourself feeling a little low on this day of each year, let me say…You are loved and maybe you can lift yourself up by sharing that love with others.

5 Things to Consider:

  1. Pay-It-Forward/ Do a good deed for someone. It will make them smile as well as yourself.
  2. Find the positive in the day. Look for things that make you happy. Things that make you smile. Make an effort to look for the good in others.
  3. Love Yourself. Do something for yourself that brings joy to your heart. Laugh Out Loud!
  4. Change Your Focus. Don’t concentrate so much on who you don’t have but rather on who you do have. Appreciate those friends and family that are near and dear. Let them know they are loved.
  5. Realize the value in each day. Valentine’s Day is only one day a year. Realize your worth and the value of each day given. Be humbled and thankful for each breath taken.

I also want to take this time to offer my heartfelt love to those who are in anguish over the most recent shooting today with at least 17 killed at a high school in Parkland, Florida. I can’t even imagine the grief they may be going through. May God be with the them and comfort them as they go through this horrific loss. ~ Laura

Conveyor of Words

No matter what life’s circumstances may bring, we have a choice of how we will act and react. As for me, I’ve come to believe that positivity can be a very powerful conveyor during life’s struggles. Through The View From My Window, I try to convey that positive words and a positive perspective are important in everyday life.

The magic of words can do more than just define a meaning. Our words can be the most inspiring form of communication or the most damaging. They have the power to create and motivate. And I believe we have a responsibility over the words we speak.

With that being said, I am asking for your support by ‘following’ and ‘sharing’ my podcast, which is the voice behind my blog. I’m still new to this type of platform so you would be helping me grow and expand in many areas.

I started this podcast last year and took a break to further other endeavors, but my heart speaks to me that I should continue this effort to see where it will take me.

MY HOPE

is to publish an episode at least once a week. I’ve already posted ten episodes which stem from my blog in some way. The topics will hopefully get better as I go. And I hope to go “live” and chat with others to share a common ground with others.

WHY PODCAST?

I have a passion to express my thoughts through words whether it’s to entertain, educate, inform, or just chat. But most importantly, to connect with others. To move and be moved. To share and to listen. To get real with myself and others.

I hope you will join me in this effort. I truly need your guidance and support. I’m all ears and using you as my soundboard.

Lots of Love,

Laura
