Are We Connected?

Hello Friends and Fellow Bloggers,

I hope this post finds you happy, healthy and enjoying life in all that it brings you.

After spending some quiet time away from my blog, podcast and other social media platforms…I’ve come to realize I’m not really connected as I once thought.

It’s been over a month since my husband and I left for our #route66 adventure and although it’s good to be home, I’m still missing that sense of freedom of the road. Freedom from the electronics. Yes, I did post my journey on Facebook only because I did have friends and family who wanted to experience the journey with us. Other than that, I was free from all the noise from the internet, television and all the connections. Unplugging made me realize how unconnected I really was.

After returning home, I felt a sense of loss. I found myself looking through the many photos taken on the road. I found myself reminiscing and wanting to go back. I found myself realizing that social media had stolen way too many of my glances and what my real connection should have been. So my question is, “Are We Connected?”

The link below is my most recent podcast episode which was published last Friday. If you click on the link, you will hear the view from my window, a.ka.-thoughts, of what  I think true connection is all about.

Below the link are the podcast notes to read, as well. If you have the time, please click the link and listen in on the ten minute episode. Feel free to share any or all thoughts. Do you ever feel you are over-connected to the wrong source? Life is so short. Are we using technology as a tool or is it using us?  Please listen and share your thoughts.

Hello Everyone and welcome to The View From My Window Podcast where life is explored through positive thoughts. Everyone has a window and each window has a different view. I’m Laura, your host and this is the view from my window.

Hey there my friends. It’s Friday and I’m here to say I’m back on the air and I have truly missed you all. I have been gone for a while traveling and it was amazing. I wish I could have taken you with me on my Route 66 adventure. You would have loved it. From the breeze of the Pacific Ocean to dusting the desert dirt from my boots and everything in between…was absolutely amazing. Although I couldn’t take you with me, you are so capable of awesome everyday experiences, as well.  You can see, touch, smell, taste and hear everything God gave you in this magnificent place we call earth. Which leads me to Episode #25: Are We Connected?

Now I will be the first to admit I am socially connected to many platforms. There’s Instagram, FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, Google Play, LinkedIn, IHeart Radio, Itunes, Spotify, Pinterest, and the list just keep on growing.

But the question is: What am I connected to? What is the source of this connection? Well, it’s people. People like me and you who have something to say, something to learn or something to share with each other. But how personal and in touch are we with each other? Is it meaningful?

I can remember the days when I talked to my friends from a rotary phone which was attached to the wall. That seems so long ago, but actually it really wasn’t. Time and technology just keeps moving forward and stops for no one.

I remember that phone on my bedroom wall. The longer that stretchy spiral chord was, the better. Some of you know what I’m talking about. Right?

There were no voice mails. No texting. Just the ringing or busy sound on the other end. If they didn’t answer…no biggie. I just called back later. Funny how things change. Not only can we call, text and leave voice mails, but we can also take pictures of ourselves with that very same phone in the palm of our hand. Google can show us the world with a simple swipe of the finger.

But, Are we really connected? I don’t think we are. We can have all the new shiny gadgets of technology at our fingertips, but it won’t give us the satisfaction of watching the sun set fade into tomorrow and rise the next morning. Breathing in the air while standing on top of one of the seven wonders of the world knowing who created it all, doesn’t even compare to that recent post with over a billion views. No hashtag measures up to releasing laughter and sharing a memorable moment with those we love.

Don’t get me wrong. Social media is all well and good and it serves its purpose but it’s not the connection we truly need to sustain life. The real connection is living life through God and all His amazing creation.

The older I get the more I realize that my days are numbered and so are yours. We won’t live forever, folks. But our legacy can. Our connection we have with God can be handed down through generations. Our true source of happiness, peace, joy, contentment and comfort does not come from gadgets but from God.

Hebrews 4:12 says that His word is alive, active and powerful and is the discerner of the thoughts and intents of our hearts.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God. It is profitable for doctrine, for reproof for instruction in righteousness that we may be complete. Be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

That my friend is what we need to be connected to. That is our source.

We, as a people, a nation of families, as parents, as individuals…need to find God. And I promise you, He won’t be found in the noise of the world-wide web.

I have been so blessed to be able to wake up each day and communicate with people in so many ways with technology. But nothing communicates better than a hug, a kiss, a smile, a friendly wave, a word of encouragement, a prayer, a pat on the back or just with a listening ear.

With that being said, I want to take this time to say “THANK YOU” to all of you have been so encouraging to me through this podcast. You have been generous with your “likes” and comments. I appreciate you and your feedback. You are more than welcome to share the view from your window on any topic or subject. I am eager to hear what’s on your heart and mind. Don’t be shy. Share your thoughts. Do you think people are connected to the wrong source?
In the mean time…

I hope and pray that in all your life adventures, you find God. You find the beauty of His creation. You find the comfort of His promises and you find the true source of life in His Word.

I’m going to leave you with a song I found on the internet…of all places. Too funny. Right? But this song is called It’s A Beautiful Day…And it leaves me with a happy, upbeat feeling of appreciating all of my God-given blessings.

I hope it does the same for you.

Until next time,
Love you guys.

Welcome to Reality

Deep within each of us dwells a silent talent. A talent waiting to amaze. To astonish. To bring out the best in people even if it’s only within ourselves that we see the results. It would be a great mistake to keep this talent buried. We must believe in ourselves even when we are the only one.

If the truth be told, we are the one who holds us back the most. Why? Because of the uncertainty of our own ability. Many times, we second guess ourselves and place restrictions on our God-given talents. Many times, the people with the greatest potential take the longest to reveal their talents because of their insecurities. But…nothing can really stop a good idea. If it does not present itself from us, it will from someone else.

Every good idea, every dream, every talent waiting to reach its true potential will always seem impossible until it is finally accomplished.

I am learning. I am growing. Every moment of every day, I am embracing my God-given talents to allow the place of where I am and where I hope to be to inspire me to become the best version of myself.

I am patiently waiting my true realization.

Below are the links to my recent podcast platforms. I have finally been accepted to GooglePlay Music and ITunes. I am still waiting to hear from Spotify. The icon below is from my original podcast platform through Spreaker. If you use of these apps,  please feel free to look me up and subscribe. I would truly appreciate your support.

In the meantime, please share in the comments one or more of your talents. I will gladly support you in your talents, dreams and endeavors.

Conveyor of Words

No matter what life’s circumstances may bring, we have a choice of how we will act and react. As for me, I’ve come to believe that positivity can be a very powerful conveyor during life’s struggles. Through The View From My Window, I try to convey that positive words and a positive perspective are important in everyday life.

The magic of words can do more than just define a meaning. Our words can be the most inspiring form of communication or the most damaging. They have the power to create and motivate. And I believe we have a responsibility over the words we speak.

With that being said, I am asking for your support by ‘following’ and ‘sharing’ my podcast, which is the voice behind my blog. I’m still new to this type of platform so you would be helping me grow and expand in many areas.

I started this podcast last year and took a break to further other endeavors, but my heart speaks to me that I should continue this effort to see where it will take me.

MY HOPE

is to publish an episode at least once a week. I’ve already posted ten episodes which stem from my blog in some way. The topics will hopefully get better as I go. And I hope to go “live” and chat with others to share a common ground with others.

WHY PODCAST?

I have a passion to express my thoughts through words whether it’s to entertain, educate, inform, or just chat. But most importantly, to connect with others. To move and be moved. To share and to listen. To get real with myself and others.

I hope you will join me in this effort. I truly need your guidance and support. I’m all ears and using you as my soundboard.

Lots of Love,

Laura

Candid Thoughts

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted on my podcast. I blinked and nine months has nearly passed.

Yesterday, I took time to sit down and post episode #9 which is a candid look into the view from my window. Sometimes I have no strategy as to what I might say but maybe it will spark some inspiration and conversation.

If you can, please take a moment to listen to the voice behind my blog. It may shock you that we could have some things in common. Then again, maybe not. Feel free to share your thoughts. I’m all ears.

Please  listen and ‘follow’ the link below if you would like to hear more episodes in the future.
