It’s that time of the year when our cooking creativity starts stirring for all the those yummy holiday recipes. With Halloween activities, School Fall Fests, parties, snacks and Thanksgiving just around the corner, why not try this fun cooking recipe with your children to create fun learning skills. Children want to be active and learn about those things that interest them especially if it’s fun. Below is a recipe for Pumpkin Pie Playdough. Get out those aprons, spoons, and messy ingredients. Bring on the FUN!
Pumpkin Pie Playdough Recipe
This is a non-edible recipe but smells like pumpkin pie. Great way for children to learn basic cooking skills in kitchen.`
5-1/2 cups flour
2 cups salt
8 teaspoons of cream of tartar
1 spice container of pumpkin pie spice (about 1-1/2 oz in bulk)
3/4 cup oil
orange food coloring (or use 2 parts yellow, 1 part red)
4 cups water
In a large saucepan combine all ingredients. Cook over medium heat, stirring until all lumps are blended. Allow to cool then knead play dough on a lightly floured counter or table until it is smooth and of play dough consistency. Add small amounts of water or flour if needed. Store in airtight container or tightly sealed Ziploc bag.
